In Hong Kong, there are underserved residential areas such as Tin Shui Wai and Yuen Long where the educational needs of children are not being met adequately. Volunteers have made efforts to tutor children in community centers, but they face challenges like inconsistency, lack of standardized materials, and no monitoring of tutoring quality. This proposal seeks to address these issues by creating a comprehensive curriculum, a volunteer management system, and a student management system to improve the quality and consistency of volunteer tutoring.
The problem in underserved areas of Hong Kong is that despite the presence of well-intentioned volunteers, the lack of structure and resources hampers the quality and consistency of tutoring for children. Volunteers come and go, progress is slow, and there is no effective way to monitor the quality of tutoring. As a result, these children miss out on educational opportunities and face a significant social and financial gap.
The project aims to establish an efficient and effective system for volunteer tutoring in underserved areas of Hong Kong. This system will include a curriculum for subjects like Chinese, English, math, science, and computer/ICT, as well as a volunteer management system and a student management system. A volunteer hour donation platform will also be created to allow individuals to contribute their time and expertise.
